Heads Up in the Bridge Club

The Bridge Club Heads Up poker championship attracted a field of 64 players with the cream of Northern Ireland poker entered. Each competitor started with 7000 chips and with 20 minutes between blind levels the structure gave everyone plenty of time to play.

The first round produced many upsets with former Irish champion Ivan Donaghy going out to Josie Ferris, also the much fancied Michael Muldoon fell at the first at the hands of the underrated Billy Devlin. However, the shock of the first round has to be Micky McClosky losing to Geoff Thompson, well done Geoff!

Paul Clydesdale and Aaron McCreanor spearheaded the local interest. Paul's enthusiasm and stamina are second to none. Paul has recently been attending Ivan Donaghy's School of poker on Tuesday evenings and is reaping the benefits. Aaron who is a new comer to texas hold'em poker progressed through two rounds before falling to Dermot Woods.

The sensation of the tournament is the form of Murray Bailie. Murrays style of play has often been ridiculed by fellow players, however he has found his game in heads up poker. His aggressive style and confident demeanour has dismissed all comers and has progressed to the final, where he plays Paul Leckey. Well-done Murray on getting to the final!

The success of the single heads up has prompted the Bridge Club to organise a team heads up tournament. This format will have three players on each team playing in a knockout tournament. Any team winning three matches are in the money winning £250, teams in the semis win £1000, runner up gets £2100 and the overall winners receive £4500.

Registration is open now for the next event, teams can register in the Bridge Club for £60 per player. To avoid disappointment please register as soon as possible.
